James started his career in Fashion, working in the studios for acclaimed designers including Vivienne Westwood and Diane von Furstenberg before becoming a costumier at the world renowned costume house Angels.
A lover of vintage clothing, James often incorporates secondhand pieces and retro styles into his projects bringing with it a reduce/reuse/recycle approach to design as well as a nostalgic aesthetic.
With over 7 years industry experience, James has had the great pleasure of assisting BAFTA nominated Costume Designer Rosa Dias on the Netflix series ‘Sex Education’; Costume Designer Verity Hawkes on AppleTV series ‘Prime Target’ and EMMY Award & CDG Award Winning Costume Designer Jany Temime on Prime Video’s upcoming ‘Young Sherlock’.
James has designed some exciting projects of his own including the BFI Network funded ‘Held’ starring Rasaq Kukoyi (Andor), ‘Exchange’ starring BAFTA winner Molly Windsor (Three Girls), ‘That Night’ co-starring Jamie Flatters (AVATAR: The Way of Water) and the upcoming directorial debut short film by Hannah van der Westhuysen‘Peter’ produced by Academy Award winning Slick Films & 13:8 starring Lee Braithwaite and Paul Kaye.
In 2022 James was selected to join the inaugural year of BAFTA Connect, a new tier of membership aimed at creatives and professionals at emerging and mid-level stages of their careers.
